Requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry (For students who entered URI prior to Fall, 2016 Download PDF here ; For students who entered URI Fall, 2016 or later, Download PDF here.)
A total of 120 credits is required for the B.S. degree in chemistry, which is certified by the American Chemical Society. This includes calculus through differential equations, three semesters of physics with laboratory, and substantial depth in chemistry. The required courses and suggested curricular progress are shown below: A total of 120 credits is required for the B.A. degree in chemistry. This includes two semesters of calculus and two semesters of physics with laboratory. All B.A. students are also required to have at least 42 credits of courses at the 300 level or above (this includes both courses in the major and any electives). The required courses and suggested curricular progress are shown below: A total of 120 credits is required for the B.S. degree in chemistry. This includes calculus through differential equations, two semesters of physics with laboratory, and coursework in forensic chemistry. The required courses and suggested curricular progress are shown below: The University requirements for a minor are a minimum of 18 credits with at least 12 credits at the 200-level or higher. The Chemistry Department does not require any particular courses to satisfy a minor but prerequisites in upper level chemistry courses necessitate that most students will need to take one year of general chemistry and one year of organic chemistry. A typical curriculum for a chemistry minor is then CHM 101, 102, 112, 114, 226, 227, 228 and 4 more credits of CHM courses at the 200-level or above. CHM 212 satisfies the requirement but is not the only way to earn the minor.
